Mosaic courses

Come and learn a new art, the art of mosaic!

Mosaic is expressive and rewarding, so why not come and have a go at making your own special piece. One-to-one courses are held in the garden studio, pictured below, where you will have the benefit of individual tuition. Larger group courses are run from July to September at another venue, dates to be confirmed so please contact us for more details.

Mosaic courses run from March to October and into November (weather permitting). Please call or email first to confirm dates are available.

Cotswold Art Studio Art and Craft courses - Garden studio in Bourton on the Water

A bit about your tutor - Jackie Isard
I became interested in mosaic design some years ago when I attended a course in Oxford. With exceptional tuition by Peter Massey, I gained the experience to carry on alone. I now make mosaics in my garden studio. I have explored different materials which give the mosaics a more interesting and colourful appeal, such as stained glass, pebbles and washed up glass from a Cornwall beach. I really enjoy teaching mosaic as it is a most rewarding experience indeed!

Once you know the techniques and methods it's not too
difficult to learn!

Details about courses
The course will be tailored to your individual needs. You will be introduced to cutting techniques and tesserae (mosaic pieces) as well as being shown how to grout your finished piece. You will make a piece about 1 foot square over a 2 day course or a smaller item on a 1 day course, see below for more details.

It is useful to bring along an idea of what you would like to do based on a board about 1 foot square in size (smaller for 1 day courses). I have cut pieces of mdf and ply to choose from. Larger sizes are more suited to a 2-3 day course. You may find a picture or a pattern you like, just bring it along. But don't worry as I have an 'Inspiration' folder if you have absolutely no idea! Don't be too ambitious as mosaic making can take a long time. If you don't finish I will try to give you enough materials to take home to finish it off.

Children over 12 years are welcome although I can only take 2 students maximum at a time. (There are group courses planned in July and September at Condicote for more students, up to 10 max, see courses for details, dates to be confirmed). On the half day children's course they will make a coaster, on the full day course they can be a little more ambitious.

Mon - Weds, weekends and Bank holidays.
10am - 4pm 2 students max. Please call or email to book.

There is a local B&B which can accomodate you if required, the Halfway House in the nearby village of Kineton or Lansdowne Villas in Bourton on the Water. They will do you a good price if you mention The Cotswold Art Studio. Please note this is a very busy tourist area, so book well in advance.
