Sharon McSwiney at work

Create a beautiful & unique metalwork wallhanging using rich red copper & golden brass. Explore techniques such as embossing, hammering, punching & heating to produce elaborate textures on metal surfaces.

DAY 1
* Initial intro to myself & my working practice to include examples & photographs of my work. I will supply source material for inspiration.
* Explanation of tools & equipment
* Demonstration of techniques
* Design generation - looking for inspiration for patterns
* Experimentation with techniques
* Start production of panel sections

DAY 2
* Demonstration of soldering & heating techniques
* Continuation & completion of panel
* Discussion & admiration of students pieces!

NB If the students are 'speedy' it may be posible to also produce a 'garden stick' in addition to the wall panel or a series of smaller pieces?

A bit about your tutor
Originally from Evesham, I worked from a studio in the Jewellery Quarter for 12 years after graduating from the School of Jewellery with a BA (Hons) in Jewellery & Silversmithing.  In 2002 I moved by business to a studio at The Fold in Bransford, Worcestershire.

My jewellery often features quirky and imaginative animal & bird designs.  Produced in silver with a bright finish or oxidised to create a matt finish.  Alternatively base metal pieces are copper plated and brush finished.

Inspiration includes children’s illustrations, gardening, folk art & textiles.  In addition to jewellery I also produce larger scale wall panels, garden sticks and greetings cards.
